Aoge Tech: What's Orange Silica Gel? It's Features and Applications 11-26-2024 10:20 PM CET | Industry, Real Estate & Construction Press release from: ABNewswire Understanding Orange Silica Gel: Uses, Benefits, and Safety Silica gel is a well-known desiccant, commonly used to control humidity and moisture in various products. Among the different types of silica gel available, orange silica gel stands out due to its unique properties and applications. This article will delve into the characteristics, uses, benefits, and safety considerations of orange silica gel, providing a comprehensive overview of this versatile material. What is Orange Silica Gel? Orange silica gel is a form of silica gel that has been treated with a moisture indicator, typically cobalt chloride, which gives it its distinctive orange color. This type of silica gel is designed to absorb moisture from the air, helping to keep products dry and free from mold, mildew, and other moisture-related issues. The color change from orange to green indicates the saturation level of the gel, making it easy to monitor its effectiveness. Composition and Properties Silica gel is primarily composed of silicon dioxide (SiO2), a naturally occurring mineral. The orange color in orange silica gel is due to the presence of cobalt chloride, which is a hygroscopic compound that changes color based on the moisture content in the environment. When the gel is dry, it appears orange, but as it absorbs moisture, it transitions to a greenish hue. This color change is a crucial feature that allows users to determine when the silica gel needs to be replaced or regenerated. Uses of Orange Silica Gel Orange silica gel has a wide range of applications across various industries. Some of the most common uses include: 1. Food Preservation One of the primary uses of orange silica gel is in food packaging. It helps to maintain the freshness of food products by absorbing excess moisture, which can lead to spoilage. By keeping the humidity levels low, orange silica gel extends the shelf life of dried fruits, snacks, and other moisture-sensitive items. 2. Electronics Protection In the electronics industry, orange silica gel is often used to protect sensitive equipment from moisture damage. It is commonly found in packaging for electronic devices, such as smartphones, cameras, and computers. By absorbing moisture, it helps prevent corrosion and other moisture-related issues that can compromise the functionality of electronic components. 3. Pharmaceuticals and Cosmetics The pharmaceutical and cosmetics industries also utilize orange silica gel to maintain product integrity. Moisture can adversely affect the stability and efficacy of medications and cosmetic products. By incorporating orange silica gel into packaging, manufacturers can ensure that their products remain dry and effective for longer periods. 4. Storage and Shipping Orange silica gel is widely used in storage and shipping applications to protect goods from moisture damage. Whether it's clothing, leather goods, or machinery, keeping moisture at bay is essential to prevent mold growth and deterioration. Many shipping containers and storage boxes are equipped with packets of orange silica gel to safeguard their contents. 5. Household Use In households, orange silica gel can be used in various ways, such as in closets, drawers, and storage bins. Placing packets of orange silica gel in these areas helps to absorb excess moisture, preventing musty odors and protecting items from damage. It is particularly useful in humid climates where moisture levels can be high. Benefits of Orange Silica Gel The benefits of using orange silica gel are numerous: 1. Moisture Control The primary advantage of orange silica gel is its ability to control moisture levels effectively. By absorbing excess humidity, it helps to prevent mold, mildew, and other moisture-related problems. 2. Visual Indicator The color-changing property of orange silica gel serves as a visual indicator of its moisture absorption capacity. This feature allows users to easily monitor the effectiveness of the gel and know when it needs to be replaced or regenerated. 3. Versatility Orange silica gel is versatile and can be used in various applications, from food preservation to electronics protection. Its adaptability makes it a valuable tool in many industries. 4. Cost-Effective Solution Using orange silica gel is a cost-effective way to protect products from moisture damage. It is relatively inexpensive and can save businesses and consumers money by extending the shelf life of products and reducing waste. Safety Considerations While orange silica gel is generally safe to use, there are some important safety considerations to keep in mind: 1. Toxicity of Cobalt Chloride Cobalt chloride, the compound that gives orange silica gel its color, is considered hazardous. It can be toxic if ingested or inhaled in large quantities. Therefore, it is essential to keep orange silica gel out of reach of children and pets and to avoid direct contact with the skin. 2. Proper Disposal When disposing of used orange silica gel, it is crucial to follow local regulations regarding hazardous waste. Some regions may have specific guidelines for disposing of materials containing cobalt chloride. 3. Regeneration Process Orange silica gel can be regenerated by heating it in an oven to remove the absorbed moisture. However, this process should be done with caution, as overheating can cause the gel to break down or release harmful fumes. Conclusion Orange silica gel is a valuable desiccant with a wide range of applications across various industries. Its ability to control moisture, combined with its visual indicator feature, makes it an effective solution for preserving products and protecting them from moisture damage. While it offers numerous benefits, it is essential to handle it safely and dispose of it properly. Even with access to blockbuster obesity drugs, some people don't lose weightMETAIRIE, La. (AP) — Dejounte Murray plans to return to the New Orleans Pelicans ' lineup on Wednesday night for the first time since fracturing his left hand in a season-opening victory over Chicago on Oct. 23. And when Murray takes the court against the Toronto Raptors , his mother will be on his mind. After practice on Tuesday, Murray discussed his impending return and disclosed more details about the previously unspecified “personal matters” that caused him to leave the team during the final days of the preseason. His mother had a stroke, he said. “It was tough to leave and go deal with that. As she got better, she wanted me to come play,” Murray said of his last-minute decision to start against Chicago. He added that his hand injury near the end of that game was God's way of telling him, “‘Nah, you need to stay with your mom.’” “I was more concerned about my mother. That was my priority,” Murray continued. “I wasn’t really worried about my recovery.” Murray's mother has recovered well, he said, while he is “healthy and ready to help this team.” “I’m ready to hoop. Play for my mother — she’s going to be watching," Murray said. “I’m ready to compete, bring that winning spirit.” The Pelicans (4-14) certainly could use the help, having lost 14 of 16 games since opening the season with a pair of victories. Injuries have ravaged the roster. At times, all five starters have been out. Star power forward Zion Williamson has missed 12 games this season — one with an illness and 11 with a hamstring injury. Herb Jones has been sidelined by a shoulder strain and Brandon Ingram's status is in doubt after he sat out practice on Tuesday with calf soreness that also sidelined him during a loss on Monday night at Indiana. But at least two starters — Murray and fellow guard CJ McCollum — are expected to play against the Raptors. “I don’t care how many games we’ve lost. I just know every time I step on the floor I feel like we can win games,” said Murray, who had 14 points, 10 assists and eight rebounds in his lone game with the Pelicans. "That’s just my mentality, and I feel like it can carry over to a lot of guys.” AP NBA: https://apnews.com/hub/NBA

NEW DELHI: Indian billionaire Gautam Adani's feverish push to expand his global energy and infrastructure empire has been knocked by US bribery charges, but analysts believe the tycoon will bounce back. The bombshell indictment in New York on Wednesday accusing Adani and his associates of paying more than $250 million in bribes to secure lucrative government contracts sparked a frenzied sale of stocks. Within hours, India's opposition leader Rahul Gandhi demanded Adani's arrest and Kenyan President William Ruto scrapped airport and electricity deals worth about $2.5 billion. The Adani Group dismissed the bribery charge as "baseless" but Shriram Subramanian, founder of corporate governance advisory firm, InGovern Research Services, said it has "huge" implications. "They will defend themselves by appealing, or go for a settlement," Subramanian told AFP from Bengaluru. "It is a big blow to their reputation and corporate governance practices," he added. The meteoric rise of Adani, once the world's second-richest man, has been dogged with controversies - and allegations he benefited from his close ties to Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi. The conglomerate weathered previous allegations of impropriety that wiped $150 billion from its market value in 2023, after a report by US short-seller Hindenburg Research accused it of "brazen" corporate fraud. "Given Adani's clout, his resources, and his access, he has the capacity to bounce back, (and) we saw that the last time around," Michael Kugelman, South Asia Institute Director at The Wilson Center told AFP. Adani's empire spanning coal, airports, cement, and media has interests in countries ranging from Australia to Bangladesh, Bhutan, Israel, Sri Lanka, Tanzania and Nepal. But Kugelman warned that this time the challenge is "unprecedented". "If you're indicted by the US justice system, the seriousness and the scale is altogether different", Kugelman said. "Hindenburg pales in comparison to what he is facing right now". The bribery charges are a huge hurdle for key investors, and sparking grassroots demands for greater scrutiny of major projects. In neighbouring Sri Lanka, activists opposing a $442 million wind power project by Adani Green Energy have demanded the deal be stalled. "The tolerance for risk among the investors who stuck with him during Hindenburg would be much lower," Kugelman said. Adani is India's largest private port operator, and operates key airports including in the financial capital Mumbai and Ahmedabad, the biggest city in Modi's home state of Gujarat. The group is also involved in vast coal and renewable energy projects across the world's fifth-largest economy. In October, Gautam's nephew and board member Sagar Adani - also named in the indictment - told AFP there was "no political connection" between Adani Group and Modi's government. Hemindra Hazari, a Mumbai-based markets research analyst, said that the conglomerate, a relatively new player in key infrastructure sectors, was backed by large investors who would otherwise have been cautious because it "was considered to be close to the ruling dispensation". "Most of them invested despite the group's limited managerial bandwidth and experience... precisely because... it was seen to be getting highly remunerative terms... which, in any normal market-based economy, would not have been possible," he told AFP. A "significant component" of Adani debt was raised from foreign sources, including banks and institutional investors, he said, and "everything will slow down for them for now". India's government is yet to comment. Opposition leader Rahul Gandhi however was swift to demand Adani be arrested - but telling reporters he knew that would not happen, alleging that "Modi is protecting him". Modi's Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) hit back saying the alleged bribery was linked to Indian states led by opposition parties. Subramanian believes it is just "a dent" to Adani's reputation and that they will "continue to seek out and win projects across India and rest of the world". But Kugelman warned the "reputational blows", not only to the Adani Group but to India, were "severe". As for the future, how the charges will influence incoming US president Donald Trump remains an "unknown", Kugelman said. "I don't think it'd really affect the broader India-US relationship", he said. But he noted that Trump may eye a wily businessman like Adani "favourably", or "leverage it for more favourable policies on tariffs".
SBA Administrator Guzman Hosts Inaugural Artificial Intelligence Small Business Summit at Georgia TechNEW YORK (AP) — Richard Parsons, one of corporate America's most prominent Black executives who held top posts at Time Warner and Citigroup, died Thursday. He was 76. Parsons, who died at his Manhattan home, was diagnosed with multiple myeloma in 2015 and cited “unanticipated complications” from the disease for cutting back on work a few years later. The financial services company Lazard, where Parsons was a longtime board member, confirmed his death. The NBA, where Parsons was interim CEO of the Los Angeles Clippers in 2014, was among organizations offering condolences. “Dick Parsons was a brilliant and transformational leader and a giant of the media industry who led with integrity and never shied away from a challenge,” NBA Commissioner Adam Silver said. Parsons’ friend Ronald Lauder told The New York Times that the cause of death was cancer. Parsons stepped down Dec. 3 from the boards of Lazard and Lauder's company, Estée Lauder, citing health reasons. He had been on Estée Lauder’s board for 25 years. Parsons, a Brooklyn native who started college at 16, was named chairman of Citigroup in 2009, one month after leaving Time Warner Inc., where he helped restore the company’s stature following its much-maligned acquisition by internet provider America Online Inc. He steered Citigroup back to profit after financial turmoil from the subprime mortgage crisis, which upended the economy in 2007 and 2008. Parsons was named to the board of CBS in September 2018 but resigned a month later because of illness. Parsons said in a statement at the time that he was already dealing with multiple myeloma when he joined the board, but “unanticipated complications have created additional new challenges.” He said his doctors advised him to cut back on his commitments to ensure recovery. “Dick’s storied career embodied the finest traditions of American business leadership,” Lazard said in a statement. The company, where Parsons was a board member from 2012 until this month, praised his “unmistakable intelligence and his irresistible warmth.” “Dick was more than an iconic leader in Lazard’s history — he was a testament to how wisdom, warmth, and unwavering judgment could shape not just companies, but people’s lives,” the company said. “His legacy lives on in the countless leaders he counseled, the institutions he renewed, and the doors he opened for others.” Parsons was known as a skilled negotiator, a diplomat and a crisis manager. Although he was with Time Warner through its difficulties with AOL, he earned respect for the company and rebuilt its relations with Wall Street. He streamlined Time Warner’s structure, pared debt and sold Warner Music Group and a book publishing division. He also fended off a challenge from activist investor Carl Icahn in 2006 to break up the company and helped Time Warner reach settlements with investors and regulators over questionable accounting practices at AOL. Parsons joined Time Warner as president in 1995 after serving as chairman and chief executive of Dime Bancorp Inc., one of the largest U.S. thrift institutions. In 2001, after AOL used its fortunes as the leading provider of Internet access in the U.S. to buy Time Warner for $106 billion in stock, Parsons became co-chief operating officer with AOL executive Robert Pittman. In that role, he was in charge of the company’s content businesses, including movie studios and recorded music. He became CEO in 2002 with the retirement of Gerald Levin, one of the key architects of that merger. Parsons was named Time Warner chairman the following year, replacing AOL founder Steve Case, who had also championed the combination. The newly formed company’s Internet division quickly became a drag on Time Warner. The promised synergies between traditional and new media never materialized. AOL began seeing a reduction in subscribers in 2002 as Americans replaced dial-up connections with broadband from cable TV and phone companies. Parsons stepped down as CEO in 2007 and as chairman in 2008. A year later AOL split from Time Warner and began trading as a separate company, following years of struggles to reinvent itself as a business focused on advertising and content. Time Warner is now owned by AT&T Inc. A board member of Citigroup and its predecessor, Citibank, since 1996, Parsons was named chairman in 2009 at a time of turmoil for the financial institution. Citigroup had suffered five straight quarters of losses and received $45 billion in government aid. Its board had been criticized for allowing the bank to invest so heavily in the risky housing market. Citigroup returned to profit under Parsons, starting in 2010, and would not have a quarterly loss again until the fourth quarter of 2017. Parsons retired from that job in 2012. In 2014 he stepped in as interim CEO of the Clippers until Microsoft CEO Steve Ballmer took over later that year. Parsons, a Republican, previously worked as a lawyer for Nelson Rockefeller, a former Republican governor of New York, and in Gerald Ford’s White House. Those early stints gave him grounding in politics and negotiations. He also was an economic adviser on President Barack Obama’s transition team. Parsons, who loved jazz and co-owned a Harlem jazz club, also served as Chairman of the Apollo Theater and the Jazz Foundation of America. And he held positions on the boards of the Smithsonian National Museum of African American History and Culture, the American Museum of Natural History and the Museum of Modern Art in New York City. Parsons played basketball at the University of Hawaii at Manoa and received his law degree from Albany Law School in 1971. He is survived by his wife, Laura, and their family. For more information contact help@thesun.co.uk ARIZONA CARDINAL (2.07 Aintree, nap) He was the game winner of the Topham in April and looked rusty on his comeback at Chepstow last time. He still looks on a fair weight and has no stamina issues with testing ground his favourite. Gets the nod over fences that he took really well to last time. MONTGOMERY (3.35 Sandown, nb) He looks tailormade for marathons like this, especially if more rain comes as he is best in the mud. He landed wins at Bangor and Leicester last season and Venetia Williams has been sending out winners galore in the past few weeks. He’s gone up the weights but has more to offer. Advertisement WILLMOUNT (2.25 Sandown, treble) He can hit the highs for Nicky Henderson. He was good enough to go off favourite for the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle last time. He picked up an injury during that race which has kept him off for 12 months. He’s gone well fresh and his opening mark of 130 looks on the lenient side if this six-year-old can fulfill his potential. He sees out this trip strongly and has few miles on the clock. Harry Fry’s hope goes well fresh and enjoys some cut in the ground. Henri The Second looked rusty after a year off last time and wasn’t helped by hitting traffic problems up the straight. The Nicholls runner will come on for that and looks dangerous. West To The Bridge hasn’t won for a while but was just two lengths away at Bangor latest. He’s gone well here before and should be in the mix. Advertisement Up For Parol was a regular on the podium last season and has an each-way shout from his falling mark. 1.50 L’EAU DU SUD couldn’t have done any better since going over fences with an easy debut success at Stratford before an impressive 11-length victory in a Cheltenham Grade 2. He jumped brilliantly there, has lots of pace, and could be going to the very top. Advertisement Down Memory Lane was Grade 1 class over hurdles and looked a natural when scoring by seven lengths on chase debut at Navan last month. He should take a big step up on that. Touch Me Not was impressive at Punchestown just 13 days ago. He jumped well and can’t be ruled out. Rubaud is thrown into the deep end for this chase debut. He has been in fine form over timber and is one to watch for the future. 2.25 Advertisement WILLMOUNT can hit the highs for Nicky Henderson. He was good enough to go off favourite for the Grade 1 Challow Hurdle last time. He picked up an injury during that race which has kept him off for 12 months. He’s gone well fresh and his opening mark of 130 looks on the lenient side if this six-year-old can fulfill his potential. Altobelli has dropped below the mark that saw him hit the podium twice at Ascot last season. He can figure if trainer Harry Fry’s got him wound up. Knickerbockerglory kicked off last season with a game win at Ascot and this may be the time to catch him. Advertisement Nemean Lion was a Grade 2 winner at Wincanton in February and will find this easier than the Grade 1s he’s been contesting. 3.00 JONBON sauntered to victory in this race 12 months ago and can maintain his 100% record at Sandown. He comes here in fine form having scored on comeback at Cheltenham last month and he’s fine on any ground. It will take a huge effort to topple him. Advertisement Last year’s second Boothill looks a big price for the forecast spot. He was less than two lengths off Jonbon in the Schloer last time and a repeat of that would take him into the placings. Edwardstone was third in that race and could get a bit closer with that under his belt. Henry De Bromhead sends over Quilixios who returned with a smooth success at Naas last month. He’ll need to improve on that to beat Jonbon but has solid place claims. 3.35 Advertisement MONTGOMERY looks tailormade for marathons like this, especially if more rain comes as he is best in the mud. He landed wins at Bangor and Leicester last season and Venetia Williams has been sending out winners galore in the past few weeks. He’s gone up the weights but has more to offer. Certainly Red got the job done nicely at Sandown last month and is another who stays all day. He’s off a career-high mark but will be competitive. Unanswered Prayers won the Southern National at Fontwell and a 4lb rise for that should be no problem. This is a stronger contest but he has every chance of making the frame. Advertisement Mr Vango is being targeted at the Welsh National so may need this run on comeback despite conditions being ideal especially if the forecast rain arrives. AINTREE 1.32 RICHMOND LAKE won this race 12 months ago and can follow up off the same handicap mark. He ran well here when fourth on comeback last time and loves soft ground. Advertisement No Risk Des Flos put in a solid effort at Stratford latest and has tumbled down the weights. He’s another who relishes plenty of cut underfoot. Springwell Bay won a Listed contest on return but didn’t stay when third at Cheltenham latest. This trip will suit much better. Dr TJ Eckleburg had plenty left in the tank when scoring at Haydock two weeks ago and can figure again despite a 7lb rise. Grandads Cottage ran well in the Topham but may need this run. Advertisement 2.42 LIAM SWAGGER can keep the James Owen bandwagon rolling. He’s been sending out plenty of hurdles winners who were useful on the Flat and this three-year-old showed his class when scoring in Listed company at Wetherby last time. He likes this trip and has a lot more to come. Static was second to the tip in Yorkshire before more than matching that form when going close in a Cheltenham Grade 2. There won’t be a lot between them again. Advertisement Quantock Hills was a winner in France and landed his first victory on this side of the Channel at Fontwell three weeks ago. This is a fair hike in class but he has more to offer for Warren Greatrex. Melon was a minor winner on the Flat at Haydock in September and this looks a tough contest for his hurdles debut. 3.17 Advertisement CHOCCABLOC won first-up last season and can repeat the feat for Nicky Henderson. He progressed nicely last season and finished with a good second over this trip at Ayr’s Scottish Grand National meeting. He starts handicapping off a fair mark. Getalead has been busy this season, winning three of his past four runs at lesser levels. This trip suits and he gets on well with today’s rival who takes off a handy 7lb. He’ll have to improve but there’s every chance he will. Advertisement Pyramid Place had a fair bit in hand when winning at Kempton last month. He won on his last visit here in May and will be competitive despite going up the weights. Olly Murphy stablemate Tamar Bridge also likes it here and will be fitter for his comeback from two years off at Uttoxeter. Santos Blue loves the mud so the more rain the better for his chances. Well, this may be just for you: USA Football is holding talent identification camps all over the country to find that next flag football star. It's “America’s Got Talent” meets “American Idol,” with the stage being the field and the grand prize a chance to compete for a spot on a national team. Because it’s never too early to start planning for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, where flag football will make its Summer Games debut. Know this, though — it's not an easy team to make. The men's and women's national team rosters are at “Dream Team” status given the men’s side has captured six of the last seven world championships and the women three in a row. To remain on top, the sport's national governing body is scouring every football field, park, track, basketball court and gym to find hidden talent to cultivate. USA Football has organized camps and tryouts from coast to coast for anyone ages 11 to 23. There are more than a dozen sites set up so far, ranging from Dallas (Sunday) to Chicago (Dec. 14) to Tampa (March 29) to Los Angeles (TBD) and the Boston area (April 27), where it will be held at Gillette Stadium, home of the New England Patriots. The organization has already partnered with the NFL on flag football initiatives and programs. The numbers have been through the roof, with engagement on social media platforms increasing by 86% since flag football was announced as an Olympic invitational sport in October 2023 . The participation of boys and girls ages 6 to 17 in flag football last year peaked at more than 1.6 million, according to USA Football research. “We pride ourselves on elevating the gold standard across the sport,” said Eric Mayes, the managing director of the high performance and national teams for USA Football. “We want to be the best in the world — and stay the best in the world.” Flag football was one of five new sports added to the LA28 program. The already soaring profile of American football only figures to be enhanced by an Olympic appearance. Imagine, say, a few familiar faces take the field, too. Perhaps even NFL stars such as Tyreek Hill or Patrick Mahomes, maybe even past pro football greats donning a flag belt for a country to which they may have ties. Soon after flag football's inclusion, there was chatter of NFL players possibly joining in on the fun. Of course, there are logistical issues to tackle before their inclusion at the LA Olympics, which open July 14, 2028. Among them, training camp, because the Olympics will be right in the middle of it. The big question is this: Will owners permit high-priced players to duck out for a gold-medal pursuit? No decisions have yet been made on the status of NFL players for the Olympics. For now, it's simply about growing the game. There are currently 13 states that sanction girls flag football as a high school varsity sport. Just recently, the Pittsburgh Steelers and Philadelphia Eagles helped pave the way to get it adopted in Pennsylvania. Around the world, it's catching on, too. The women's team from Japan took third at the recent word championships, while one of the best players on the planet is Mexico quarterback Diana Flores . “Could flag football globally become the new soccer? That’s something to aspire to," said Stephanie Kwok , the NFL's vice president of flag football. This type of flag football though, isn't your Thanksgiving Day game with family and friends. There's a learning curve. And given the small roster sizes, versatility is essential. Most national team members need to be a version of Colorado’s two-way standout and Heisman hopeful Travis Hunter. Forget bump-and-run coverage, too, because there's no contact. None. That took some adjusting for Mike Daniels, a defensive back out of West Virginia who earned a rookie minicamp invitation with the Cleveland Browns in 2017. “If a receiver is running around, I’m thinking, ‘OK, I can kind of bump him here and there and nudge him,’” Daniels explained. “They’re like, ‘No, you can’t.’ I’m just like, ‘So I’m supposed to let this guy just run?!’ I really rebelled at the idea at first. But you learn.” The competition for an Olympic roster spot is going to be fierce because only 10 players are expected to make a squad. The best 10 will earn it, too, as credentials such as college All-American or NFL All-Pro take a backseat. “I would actually love" seeing NFL players try out, said Daniels, who's also a personal trainer in Miami. “I’m not going to let you just waltz in here, thinking, ‘I played NFL football for five years. I’m popular. I have a huge name.’ I’m still better than you and I'm going to prove it — until you prove otherwise.” Around the house, Bruce Mapp constantly swivels his hips when turning a hallway corner or if his daughter tries to reach for a hug. It’s his way of working on avoiding a “defender” trying to snare the flag. That approach has earned the receiver out of Coastal Carolina four gold medals with USA Football. The 31-year-old fully plans on going for more gold in Los Angeles. “You grow up watching Usain Bolt (win gold) and the ‘Redeem Team’ led by Kobe Bryant win a gold medal, you're always thinking, ‘That's insane.' Obviously, you couldn't do it in your sport, because I played football," said Mapp, who owns a food truck in the Dallas area. "With the Olympics approaching, that (gold medal) is what my mind is set on." It's a common thought, which is why everything — including talent camps — starts now. “Everybody thinks, ‘Yeah, the U.S. just wins,’” Daniels said. “But we work hard all the time. We don’t just walk in. We don’t just get off the bus thinking, ‘We’re going to beat people.’” AP NFL: https://apnews.com/hub/nfl and https://twitter.com/AP_NFLALLEN PARK — The Detroit Lions made a move on Tuesday that would have seemed incomprehensible just two seasons ago. The Lions waived edge rusher James Houston, who had one of the best rookie seasons (2022) for an edge rusher in recent memory but has not returned to that form since. Asked why it didn’t work out in Detroit, Lions head coach Dan Campbell said, “It just didn’t.” “It just didn’t. We had James up for a number of games, came back off of injury, got back, and it just never quite worked out,” Campbell said. Houston, a sixth-round pick by Detroit in 2022, collected eight sacks in seven games during his rookie season and appeared to have a limitless ceiling on what he could become as a pass rusher in the following seasons. But he appeared to fall out of favor with the coaching staff as early as 2023 training camp — Detroit was unsuccessfully trying to turn him into a well-rounded outside linebacker that could play every down — then broke an ankle in Week 2 of that season while playing on special teams. He didn’t return until the NFC Championship game, where he had limited snaps (11) and didn’t make an impact on the stat sheet. In training camp before this season, the Lions continued to try to improve other parts of Houston’s game but eventually gave up on the experiment, allowing him to just focus on rushing the passer. He has 13 pressures and just one sack in 2024, even with there being a clear vacancy on the edge following several key injuries. This time two years ago, Houston was getting called up from the practice squad to make his NFL debut against the Buffalo Bills on Thanksgiving Day. Houston dazzled in front of a national television audience , sacking Bills quarterback Josh Allen twice as Detroit took Buffalo to the wire in a 28-25 loss that came on a last-second field goal. Now, before the Lions’ Thanksgiving Day game in 2024, the Lions have decided to move on. Houston hinted at the potential parting with a cryptic social media post on Monday night. He posted on X (formerly Twitter), “Live... Learn.. Move on” with a peace sign emoji. “Look, wish him the best of luck, and sometimes you just need a fresh start and this could be great for him, so, wish him the best,” Campbell said. Houston, 26, is just the third Brad Holmes draft pick to no longer be on the active roster or practice squad (Antoine Green, Chase Lucas).Warren Buffett gives away another $1.1B and plans for distributing his $147B fortune after his death
