RENTON — Though the focus of the week has understandably been on the Seahawks’ constantly evolving special-teams units, a new issue has emerged as Sunday’s game at Arizona grows closer — the health of starting running back Kenneth Walker III. Walker was one of two players listed as questionable for Sunday, the other being punter Michael Dickson. Dickson was a full participant in practice Friday, indicating he may be able to shake off the back spasms that erupted Sunday and punt against Arizona. “We’re planning on him being ready to go,’’ Seahawks coach Mike Macdonald said of Dickson, saying that the team’s signing of punter Tyler Zentner to the practice squad Friday was “a contingency plan" in case Dickson’s injury flares up. Walker, however, was listed as not participating while dealing with ankle and calf injuries, and Macdonald indicated that there is a question about whether he will play Sunday. “Wish I could tell you," Macdonald said. “Just don’t know right now. We’ll talk about plans in place on how we want to operate going into the weekend, if we have to make any moves or if we have to take it up to the game on Sunday. We’re just not sure right now." Walker had a regular workload in Sunday’s 26-21 win over the New York Jets. He played 39 snaps, or 61% of the offense plays, and had 16 of Seattle’s 21 rushing attempts, gaining 49 yards. Macdonald said the ankle and calf injuries are not related and added that they were not apparent during the game but crept up later. “To my knowledge he got out of the game fine," Macdonald said. “Some of these things, they pop up later, it gets kind of funky. So to my knowledge I don’t think he was limited as the game wore on." Walker first showed up on the injury report Wednesday as limited and then was listed as DNP (did not practice) Thursday and Friday. Walker missed games this season against the Patriots and Dolphins because of an oblique injury, part of a rough season for the third-year running back out of Michigan State. After gaining 1,050 yards and averaging 4.6 per carry as a rookie in 2022 and 905 and 4.1 in 2023, Walker is averaging just 3.7 yards this year. The Seahawks rank 28 th in the NFL in rushing yards per game at 88.7. Getting the running game going this week figures to be challenging, even if they are at full strength. The Cardinals rank 13 th in rushing defense, allowing 117.3 per game, and held the Seahawks to 65 yards on 25 attempts in Seattle’s 16-6 win over Arizona at Lumen Field on Nov. 24. If Walker can’t play, second-year running back Zach Charbonnet would start. Charbonnet has 266 yards on 75 carries this season (3.5 per attempt) with a long of 13. He had 28 on four carries against the Jets, including the go-ahead TD on an eight-yard run with 5:34 to play on third-and-1. Second-year player Kenny McIntosh is the only other running back on the 53-man roster — he has four carries for 16 yards this season. If Walker is out, Seattle could add depth at running back by elevating rookie George Holani off the practice squad. The former Boise State standout returned to the practice squad off injured reserve last week. “He could be a solution on that front," Macdonald said. Return games still in flux Receiver/returner Jaelon Darden, claimed off waivers Thursday from Cleveland, did practice Friday due to personal reasons. But Macdonald said he could be one of Seattle’s returners Sunday, most likely handling punts, where he has the most experience. Seattle waived its starting punt returner, Dee Williams, on Thursday, and he was claimed Friday by the New York Giants. “Plan on having him out there, ready to go," Macdonald said of Darden, who had 22 punt returns for 234 yards this season for Cleveland and does not have a listed fumble in 115 combined kickoff and punt returns in his NFL career. “(There are) some moving parts on that front, who is returning what and what phase (they are in). We have a plan for all kind of the things that could possibly happen, or we think we do at least, and then we’ll go from there. But he’s definitely part of it.’’ A factor is Walker's availability. Charbonnet has been one of a handful of players to practice kickoff returns this week with McIntosh, Holani and receiver Cody White. But if Walker is out and Charbonnet has to be the main running back, the Seahawks might not want him returning kicks. “He’s a possibility," Macdonald said of Charbonnet. “Again, I just can't give you an answer right now, because there are things that we don't know right now. So we're trying to figure that out. But, we've worked it, guys have practiced it. If guys are back there, they'll have practiced all the things we're going to ask them to do. We've got a good plan, just not sure on who's going to be out there right now based off who's available and all those things." Seattle shook up its return teams in the wake of fumbles lost on kickoff returns by Laviska Shenault Jr. and Williams against the Jets. The two had combined for five lost fumbles on punts or kickoffs this season, and both were released this week. "We've got to take care of the ball, man, just got to take care of the ball," Macdonald said. “So not excited about having to do it but felt like they were necessary.'' Punter Zentner signed With Dickson being limited in practice this week because of back spasms that crept up late in the Jets game, the Seahawks on Friday signed Zentner. Seattle placed veteran offensive lineman Jason Peters on the practice squad/injured reserve list to make room on the roster. "He's getting better every day," Macdonald said of Dickson. “Looks positive right now. You just never know, like is he going to lock up again? So you have a contingency plan. But we're planning on him being ready to go." Like any practice squad player, Zentner would have to be elevated to the active roster Saturday to play Sunday. Zentner practiced Friday. The Seahawks know him well, as he punted against them Nov. 3 for the Rams in Los Angeles’ 26-20 overtime win at Lumen Field, filling in for ill Ethan Evans. He had seven punts that day for an average of 40.1 yards with a long of 53. Notes Linebacker/edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu (thigh) was not given a game designation, meaning he is ready to return against Arizona. But Macdonald said Nwosu's playing time will be limited in his second game since October 2023. "We have a plan for him to bring him back," Macdonald said. “He's not going to be playing every snap. But, if he's out there, we've got a plan for him in terms of bringing him back. But it won't be like a full workload right now." The Seahawks ruled out offensive lineman Stone Forsythe (hand). He remains on injured reserve but returned to practice last week. He practiced fully all three days this week, indicating he is making progress. The designation assures the Seahawks will not sign him to the 53 for Sunday's game. Their roster is full after adding Nwosu to it Thursday.
WASHINGTON (AP) — After several weeks working mostly behind closed doors, Vice President-elect returned to Capitol Hill this week in a new, more visible role: Helping try to get his most contentious Cabinet picks to confirmation in the Senate, where Vance has served for the last two years. Vance arrived at the Capitol on Wednesday with former Rep. Matt Gaetz and spent the morning sitting in on meetings between Trump’s choice for attorney general and key Republicans, including members of the Senate Judiciary Committee. The effort was for naught: amid scrutiny over sex trafficking allegations and the reality that he was unlikely to be confirmed. Thursday morning Vance was back, this time accompanying Pete Hegseth, the “Fox & Friends Weekend” host whom Trump has tapped to be the next secretary of defense. Hegseth also has faced allegations of sexual assault that he denies. Vance is expected to accompany other nominees for meetings in coming weeks as he tries to leverage the two years he has spent in the Senate to help push through Trump’s picks. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., at the Capitol in Washington, Wednesday, Nov. 20, 2024. (AP Photo/J. Scott Applewhite) The role of introducing nominees around Capitol Hill is an unusual one for a vice president-elect. Usually the job goes to a former senator who has close relationships on the Hill, or a more junior aide. But this time the role fits Vance, said Marc Short, who served as Trump’s first director of legislative affairs as well as chief of staff to Trump’s first vice president, Mike Pence, who spent more than a decade in Congress and led the former president’s transition ahead of his first term. ”JD probably has a lot of current allies in the Senate and so it makes sense to have him utilized in that capacity,” Short said. Unlike the first Trump transition, which played out before cameras at Trump Tower in New York and at the president-elect’s golf club in Bedminster, New Jersey, this one has largely happened behind closed doors in Palm Beach, Florida. There, a small group of officials and aides meet daily at Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort to run through possible contenders and interview job candidates. The group includes Elon Musk, the billionaire who has spent so much time at the club that Trump has joked he can’t get rid of him. Vance has been a constant presence, even as he’s kept a lower profile. The Ohio senator has spent much of the last two weeks in Palm Beach, according to people familiar with his plans, playing an active role in the transition, on which he serves as honorary chair. Vance has been staying at a cottage on the property of the gilded club, where rooms are adorned with cherubs, oriental rugs and intricate golden inlays. It’s a world away from the famously hardscrabble upbringing that Vance documented in the memoir that made him famous, “Hillbilly Elegy.” His young children have also joined him at Mar-a-Lago, at times. Vance was photographed in shorts and a polo shirt playing with his kids on the seawall of the property with a large palm frond, a U.S. Secret Service robotic security dog in the distance. On the rare days when he is not in Palm Beach, Vance has been joining the sessions remotely via Zoom. Though he has taken a break from TV interviews after months of constant appearances, Vance has been active in the meetings, which began immediately after the election and include interviews and as well as presentations on candidates’ pluses and minuses. Among those interviewed: Contenders , as Vance wrote in a since-deleted social media post. Defending himself from criticism that he’d missed a Senate vote in which one of President Joe Biden’s judicial nominees was confirmed, Vance wrote that he was meeting at the time “with President Trump to interview multiple positions for our government, including for FBI Director.” “I tend to think it’s more important to get an FBI director who will dismantle the deep state than it is for Republicans to lose a vote 49-46 rather than 49-45,” Vance added on X. “But that’s just me.” While Vance did not come in to the transition with a list of people he wanted to see in specific roles, he and his friend, Trump’s eldest son, Donald Trump Jr., who is also a member of the transition team, were eager to see former Democratic Rep. Tulsi Gabbard and Robert F. Kennedy Jr. find roles in the administration. Trump ended up , a powerful position that sits atop the nation’s spy agencies and acts as the president’s top intelligence adviser. And he chose Kennedy to , a massive agency that oversees everything from drug and food safety to Medicare and Medicaid. Vance was also a big booster of Tom Homan, the former acting director of Immigration and Customs Enforcement, In another sign of Vance’s influence, James Braid, a top aide to the senator, is expected to serve as Trump’s legislative affairs director. Allies say it’s too early to discuss what portfolio Vance might take on in the White House. While he gravitates to issues like trade, immigration and tech policy, Vance sees his role as doing whatever Trump needs. Vance was spotted days after the election giving his son’s Boy Scout troop a tour of the Capitol and was there the day of leadership elections. He returned in earnest this week, first with Gaetz — arguably Trump’s most divisive pick — and then Hegseth, of sexually assaulting a woman in 2017, according to an investigative report made public this week. Hegseth told police at the time that the encounter had been consensual and denied any wrongdoing. Vance hosted Hegseth in his Senate office as GOP senators, including those who sit on the Senate Armed Services Committee, filtered in to meet with the nominee for defense secretary. While a president’s nominees usually visit individual senators’ offices, meeting them on their own turf, the freshman senator — who is accompanied everywhere by a large Secret Service detail that makes moving around more unwieldy — instead brought Gaetz to a room in the Capitol on Wednesday and Hegseth to his office on Thursday. Senators came to them. Vance made it to votes Wednesday and Thursday, but missed others on Thursday afternoon. Vance is expected to continue to leverage his relationships in the Senate after Trump takes office. But many Republicans there have longer relationships with Trump himself. Sen. Kevin Cramer, a North Dakota Republican, said that Trump was often the first person to call him back when he was trying to reach high-level White House officials during Trump’s first term. “He has the most active Rolodex of just about anybody I’ve ever known,” Cramer said, adding that Vance would make a good addition. “They’ll divide names up by who has the most persuasion here,” Cramer said, but added, “Whoever his liaison is will not work as hard at it as he will.” Cramer was complimentary of the Ohio senator, saying he was “pleasant” and ” interesting” to be around. ′′He doesn’t have the long relationships,” he said. “But we all like people that have done what we’ve done. I mean, that’s sort of a natural kinship, just probably not as personally tied.” Under the Constitution, Vance will also have a role presiding over the Senate and breaking tie votes. But he’s not likely to be needed for that as often as was Kamala Harris, who since Republicans will have a bigger cushion in the chamber next year.

TOKYO — South Korean President Yoon Suk Yeol is facing possible impeachment for sending heavily armed soldiers into Seoul’s streets with a baffling declaration of martial law that reminded many of the country’s past military-backed dictatorships. Lawmakers began impeachment proceedings against Yoon just hours after parliament unanimously voted to cancel martial law, forcing the president to lift his order about six hours after it began. Opposition parties are pushing for a vote on Saturday on the impeachment motion, which needs support from two-thirds of the National Assembly to advance to the Constitutional Court, which would decide whether to remove Yoon from office. In a surprising turnaround, the head of Yoon’s governing party expressed support for suspending the president’s powers, making Yoon’s impeachment more likely. Here’s what to know about the situation: Opposition parties are pushing for a parliamentary vote on Yoon’s impeachment on Saturday, calling his short-lived martial law declaration an “unconstitutional, illegal rebellion or coup.” But with 192 seats in the 300-member National Assembly, they need support from some members of the president’s conservative People Power Party to get the two-thirds majority required to pass the impeachment motion. In a striking reversal, PPP leader Han Dong-hun called on Friday for an immediate suspension of Yoon’s official duties, increasing the chances of impeachment. Han said he had received intelligence that Yoon had ordered the country’s defense counterintelligence commander to arrest key politicians on accusations of “anti-state activities” during the brief period of martial law. Yoon also faces rising popular pressure to step down. Thousands of protesters have marched in the streets of Seoul since Wednesday, and thousands of autoworkers and other members of the Korean Metal Workers’ Union, one of the country’s biggest umbrella labor groups, have started hourly strikes since Thursday. The motion to impeach Yoon can be put to a vote between Friday and Sunday. A new motion can be submitted later if the current one fails or expires. If Yoon is impeached, he would be suspended until the Constitutional Court decides whether to remove him from office. Prime Minister Han Duck-soo, who holds the No. 2 position in the government, would take over presidential responsibilities. The Constitutional Court currently has three vacancies due to retirements, and six votes are required to remove the president from office. The Democratic Party is expected to speed up the process of exercising its right to recommend two of the three new justices. South Korea’s constitution gives the president the power to use the military to keep order in “wartime, war-like situations or other comparable national emergency states.” Imposing martial law can include things like suspending civil rights such as the freedom of the press and assembly and temporarily limiting the powers of the courts and government agencies. The constitution also gives the National Assembly the power to lift the declaration with a majority vote. Lawmakers rushed to the building as soon as they heard of Yoon’s declaration late Tuesday. Some climbed the walls to evade the military cordon so they could assemble a quorum. Their vote to lift the order was 190-0 including 18 members of Yoon’s party. The impeachment motion alleges Yoon imposed martial law far beyond his legitimate powers and in a situation that did not meet the constitutional standard of a severe crisis. The constitution also doesn’t allow a president to use the military to suspend parliament. The motion argues that suspending political party activities and deploying troops to seal the National Assembly amounted to rebellion. In Yoon’s announcement late Tuesday, he vowed to eliminate “anti-state” forces he said were plotting rebellion and accused the main opposition parties of supporting the country’s rival, North Korea. Yoon gave no direct evidence when he raised the specter of North Korea as a destabilizing force. Yoon has long maintained that a hard line against North Korea is the only way to stop it from following through on its nuclear threats against South Korea. Yoon has struggled to get his agenda through an opposition-dominated parliament while facing corruption scandals involving him and his wife. There were quick claims that the martial law declaration was linked to Yoon’s political struggles. He has had little success in getting his policies adopted by a parliament that has been controlled by the opposition since he took over in 2022. Conservatives have said the opposition moves are political revenge for investigations into Democratic Party leader Lee Jae-myung, who is seen as the favorite in the next presidential election in 2027. Just this month, Yoon denied wrongdoing in an influence-peddling scandal involving him and his wife. The claims have battered his approval ratings and fueled attacks by his rivals. The scandal centers on claims that Yoon and first lady Kim Keon Hee exerted inappropriate influence on the PPP to pick a certain candidate to run for a parliamentary by-election in 2022 at the request of Myung Tae-kyun, an election broker and founder of a polling agency who conducted free opinion surveys for Yoon before he became president. Yoon has said he did nothing inappropriate. During the dictatorships that emerged as South Korea rebuilt from the 1950-53 Korean War, leaders occasionally proclaimed martial law that allowed them to station soldiers, tanks and armored vehicles on streets or in public places to prevent anti-government demonstrations. Army Gen. Park Chung-hee led several thousand troops into Seoul in the early hours of May 16, 1961, in the country’s first coup. He led South Korea for nearly 20 years and proclaimed martial law several times to stop protests and jail critics before he was assassinated by his spy chief in 1979. Less than two months after Park’s death, Maj. Gen. Chun Doo-hwan led tanks and troops into Seoul in December 1979 in the country’s second coup. The next year, he orchestrated a brutal military crackdown on a pro-democracy uprising in the southern city of Gwangju, killing at least 200 people. In the summer of 1987, massive street protests forced Chun’s government to accept direct presidential elections. His army buddy Roh Tae-woo, who had joined Chun’s 1979 coup, won the election held later in 1987 largely because of divided votes among liberal opposition candidates. AP writers Kim Tong-hyung and Hyung-jin Kim in Seoul, South Korea, contributed to this story.True freshman Luke Kromenhoek threw three touchdown passes and Caziah Holmes ran for two more as host Florida State routed Charleston Southern 41-7 on Saturday afternoon in Tallahassee, Fla. The Seminoles (2-9) convincingly snapped a six-game losing streak and ensured that the Buccaneers (1-11) would finish theirs on a 10-game skid. Florida State has not had much to celebrate during one of its worst seasons in program history. But on Saturday, the Seminoles overcame a rough start and put together one of their more complete efforts of the season. Florida State had not scored more than 21 points in a game prior to Saturday's contest and its 175 rushing yards more than doubled its average (80.5 per game) this season. No single runner had over 40 yards, but seven rushers combined for that output on 34 attempts. The Seminoles entered the game ranked 130th out of 133 FBS teams in rushing offense. Holmes, a senior, finished with three carries for 38 yards, including touchdown runs of 3 and 18 yards. Kromenhoek gave Florida State a sliver of hope for its quarterback future as he completed 13 of 20 passes for 209 yards and no interceptions. He threw TD passes for Amaree Williams, Ja'Khi Douglas and Hykeem Williams. The highlight was a 71-yard touchdown pass to Douglas on the first play from scrimmage of the second half to put the Seminoles ahead 24-0. Douglas finished with 82 yards receiving on three catches, and 10 different Florida State players caught passes for 240 total yards. The Seminoles went 6 of 10 on third downs after averaging only a 25 percent conversion rate all season. Their defense held Charleston Southern to 275 total yards (57 rushing) and forced two turnovers. Florida State was unable to hang on to the shutout, however, as Bucs quarterback Kaleb Jackson found Landon Sauers for a 7-yard touchdown pass with 57 seconds left in the fourth quarter. Jackson completed 22 of 32 passes for 218 yards, one touchdown and one interception. The Bucs defense recorded three sacks led by Davion Williams, who had eight tackles, 2.5 tackles for loss and one sack. The Seminoles will conclude their season next Saturday at home against rival Florida. --Field Level MediaSprout Social CEO Ryan Barretto sells shares worth $423,474

Wharfedale, despite its charm, tends to get rather packed during the summer months. However, there's a charmingly named North Yorkshire village, slightly off the usual tourist trail that remains somewhat quieter. The narrow and winding two-mile road from Burnsall to Appletreewick doesn't lead anywhere else. You don't pass through Appletreewick unless you intend to or stumble upon it by happy accident. As such, it doesn't see the same level of activity as Burnsall during the peak season. That's not to say it's devoid of tourists in winter. In an age where nearly everyone has a car and a smartphone, no place in the Yorkshire Dales is truly hidden. And visitors have good reason to search for Appletreewick online. It's a typical Dales village with old stone houses overlooking the expansive, green Wharfedale. Noteworthy buildings include the intriguingly named 15th-century Mock Beggar Hall and High Hall, a Tudor mansion, reports Yorkshire Live . The entirety of High Hall, which radiates nobility both inside and out, is available for holiday rentals if you fancy playing pretend as a 16th-century noble family for a week. Who wouldn't? Those on more modest budgets may prefer to stay in one of Appletreewick's holiday cottages or campsites. It's further from the Wharfe than say Grassington or Burnsall, so if you're keen on a dip, you'll need to be prepared and determined. If it's too cold or you simply can't be bothered, Appletreewick boasts two pubs - the New Inn and the Craven Arms - which are open all year round. Richard, a local from the Craven Arms, shares his thoughts on the village: "It's a very historic village and one of the most beautiful villages in the Dales." He adds, "It's a smaller road to get here so it's a bit more isolated – but not a lot." When asked about the name 'Appletreewick', Richard confirms that it does indeed have a connection with apple trees, saying, "The answer is yes to both." He elaborates that the Domesday Book of 1086 records it as æppel-trēow wīc, which translates from Old English to mean 'a farm specialising in apples'. This historical detail might be the reason why Appletreewick boasts its own cider. For those keen to sample some, the Growling Shrew bottle shop in Skipton is known to occasionally stock Appletreewick Cider. Wang Cong has not done much in MMA, but her placement as the third fight down from the main event on an international Fight Night card is a testament to her kickboxing ability. She is the former Kunlun Fight women's lightweight champion and a 2013 gold medalist in the World Wushu Championships. Cong Wang vs. Valentina Shevchenko pic.twitter.com/VKMe7Y2Rxr The problem for Fernandes is that the obvious best path to beat the Chinese knockout artist is to grapple her, but Gabriella has proven to be wrestle-able herself. Her background is in Brazilian-style Muay Thai. Her clinch can be deadly and a dirty, clinch-striking attack may give the kickboxer trouble. But Wang Cong’s attributes are too great to ignore; nobody at 125-lbs in the women's divisions can put people out cold. She even has added some grappling skills, with two submission finishes on her MMA resume. I expect Fernandes to approach cockily for a stand-up duel and get TKOed or lose a wide decision. This is not the level at which Cong’s rise will be halted. Her UFC debut did not disappoint 😮💨 Catch Wang Cong on the #UFCMacau main card Saturday! pic.twitter.com/HbVTXiGgeT
