Rep. Nancy Pelosi was hospitalized and undergoing medical evaluation Friday after sustaining an undisclosed injury during a European trip with a congressional delegation. It wasn’t immediately clear what type of injury the former House Speaker suffered or how serious her condition is, although she was said to be continuing to work from the hospital. A spokesperson said the 84-year-old California Democrat is “currently receiving excellent treatment from doctors and medical professionals.” “Pelosi sustained an injury during an official engagement and was admitted to the hospital for evaluation,” Ian Krager, the spokesman, said in a statement. Pelosi traveled to Luxembourg with a bipartisan congressional delegation to mark the 80th anniversary of World War II’s Battle of the Bulge , a key turning point in the fight against the Nazis. “(Pelosi) regrets that she is unable to attend ... engagements to honor the courage of our service members during one of the greatest acts of American heroism in our nation’s history,” Krager added. Despite her advanced age, Pelosi appears to be in good health and has suffered few known major medical scares. She recently won reelection to a 20th term representing San Francisco’s deep-blue 11th congressional district. Pelosi has remained a major political force in the Democratic Party even after handing the Democratic baton in the House to Brooklyn Rep. Hakeem Jeffries , who recently won a second two-year term as minority leader. She was credited with bulldozing President Biden into dropping his reelection bid after a dismal performance in a debate with President-elect Trump. The two Democratic allies admit they haven’t spoken since, a sign of continuing friction. ©2024 New York Daily News. Visit at nydailynews.com . Sabir Ahamed, a researcher who works with Pratichi Trust had reportedly submitted an RTI seeking data from 23 medical colleges in West Bengal. The RTI sought details on their students, faculty and administrative employees, including details such as social groups they belonged. The data, which does not come under any restricted information category, was required by Sabir Ahamed for his research on the representation of underprivileged populations in the state’s medical education and administration. “As a researcher, I have filed more than 2,500 applications in various departments of state and central governments since the enactment of the (RTI) law. This was the first time I was asked to prove my citizenship. According to the RTI Act, a mere declaration of citizenship is typically sufficient,” Ahamed was quoted by The Telegraph . On December 2, the Calcutta National Medical College sent a response to the RTI plea asking Ahamed to prove his Indian citizenship. “In response to your RTI application..., the undersigned would like to mention that you have not declared in the said application that you are a citizen of India. Therefore we are unable to are unable to answer your queries until you provide proof of your Indian Citizenship,” said the communication, signed by the state public information officer (SPIO). Ahamed replied to the SPIO with a copy of his Aadhaar card. On December 6, a reply came agreeing to share the information as he has provided the information identifying as a researcher while stating that the Aadhaar card was not considered proof of Indian citizenship. The Union government’s website mentions that there is no requirement for proof of citizenship to apply for any information under RTI. However, it mentions that if the SPIO or any other concerned officer doubts whether the applicant is an Indian citizen, proof may be asked. “My question is: what made the SPIO of the medical college find reason to believe I am not an Indian citizen, or doubt my citizenship? Was it my name, or was it an attempt to deny information?” Ahamed said. Sabir Ahamed is the national coordinator of the Pratichi Institute, which was founded by the Nobel Laureate Amartya Sen.Nevada 90, Oklahoma St. 78

By ZEKE MILLER, Associated Press WASHINGTON (AP) — President-elect Donald Trump’s transition team on Tuesday signed an agreement to allow the Justice Department to conduct background checks on his nominees and appointees after a weeks-long delay. The step lets Trump transition aides and future administration staffers obtain security clearances before Inauguration Day to access classified information about ongoing government programs, an essential step for a smooth transiton of power. It also allows those nominees who are up for Senate confirmation to face the background checks lawmakers want before voting on them. Teams of investigators have been standing by to process clearances for Trump aides and advisers. “This agreement with the Department of Justice will ensure President Trump and his team are ready on Day 1 to begin enacting the America First Agenda that an overwhelming majority of our nation supported on Election Day,” said Susie Wiles, Trump’s designate to be White House chief of staff. The announcement comes a week after the Trump transition team signed an agreement with the Biden White House to allow transition staff to coordinate with the existing federal workforce before taking office on Jan. 20. The White House agreement was supposed to have been signed by Oct. 1, according to the Presidential Transition Act, and the Biden White House had issued both public and private appeals for Trump’s team to sign on. Security clearances are required to access classified information, including on ongoing operations and threats to the nation, and the Biden White House and outside experts have emphasized to Trump’s team the importance of having cleared personnel before Inauguration Day so they could be fully briefed and ready to run the government. Republican Senators have also insisted on FBI background checks for Trump’s nominees before they face confirmation votes, as has been standard practice for decades. Lawmakers have been particularly interested in seeing the findings of reviews into Trump’s designated nominee for defense secretary, former Fox News host Pete Hegseth, and for Rep. Tulsi Gabbard to be director of national intelligence. “That’s why it’s so important that we have an FBI background check, a committee review of extensive questions and questionnaires, and a public hearing,” said. Sen. Susan Collins, R-Maine on Monday. John Thune, the incoming Senate Republican leader, said the Trump team “understands there’s going to have to be a thorough vetting of all these nominees.” AP congressional correspondent Lisa Mascaro contributed.FRISCO — Before Week 12, the outward focus on the Dallas Cowboys' season had turned to the upcoming NFL Draft and the team positioning themselves to land a highly touted prospect come April. For now, "America's Team" has subsided those conversations. The Cowboys outlasted the Washington Commanders 34-26 Sunday, closing out a dramatic victory to land a momentous victory and end a five-game losing streak. Defensive star Micah Parsons warned that Dallas would not be laying down to secure any enticing draft capital ahead of the game. His assertion proved correct, but Parsons' firm stance against the tank has not kept his eyes away from the college game entirely. As he usually does, Parsons took to social media to give his take on the pressing Heisman Trophy debate. "We shouldn’t even be discussing the Heisman!!! Ashton Jeanty is the Heisman winner!!" Parsons said. By Tony Fisher Both make their own convincing arguments for the award though Travis Hunter currently holds the inside track according to BetMGM with -400 odds. Jeanty trails behind his counterpart with +400 odds. Though the NFL season still has a little over a month to go before its own postseason starts, early mock draft projections have connected Jeanty to the Cowboys. Given Dallas' needs at that position, the Boise State running back could be a strong choice if the Cowboys pick later in the first round. However, Hunter seems the more enticing prospect coming out of Colorado. The Buffaloes' two-way star possesses one of the most unique profiles in years, presenting a true two-way threat playing cornerback and receiver. Related: KaVontae Turpin Describes 99-Yard TD In Video Going Viral Despite the Cowboys' upstart showing on Sunday, they are still unlikely to completely climb out of a place where their first-round selection would not land them a top-20 prospect. If they fully embrace the tank and cannot string together any more wins, Hunter could be a target in their sights. But a slight turnaround from where they have been could keep them out of those sweepstakes and instead in a position to draft Jeanty. While those conversations will carry on outside the Star, Parsons and the Cowboys look to build off their momentum they found against the Commanders when they face the New York Giants on Thanksgiving. So you just got to go out there and put up the numbers?” Balloting was conducted before the postseason.
