Fintech: METIS advises AEGON insurance group on investment of up to 1.5 bn Euros

METIS advises on investment into the leading German crowd lending platform. With its innovative credit scoring, auxmoney provides more people with access to credit.

METIS Rechtsanwälte advised the Dutch insurance group AEGON and its venture capital company Transamerica Ventures on investments into the leading German crowd lending platform auxmoney. AEGON Group is the lead investor of the current series E financing round. Over the next three years, AEGON will make available additional funds of up to approximately €1.5 billion to the auxmoney credit marketplace.

The auxmoney credit marketplace offers consumers the opportunity to apply for loans from investors for their personal projects. An algorithm developed and fine-tuned by auxmoney allows an assessment of the credit risk. This innovative way of extending credit often allows loans to be made even in cases in which loans would not be available from traditional banks. This way, auxmoney creates new financing options even for segments of the population that were, for the most part, denied access to credit in the past.

AEGON is one of the world's leading insurance groups, with a focus on life insurance, pension planning, and asset management.

The METIS team included Bernhard Maluch (Corporate/M&A), Dr. Daniel Benkert (employment law), Dr. Felix Dette and Oliver Hahner (both corporate/M&A), and Dr. Eva Breitenfeld (employment law).

AEGON received antitrust advice from Dr. Johanna Kübler (Commeo LLP).
